(= vSNARE; VAMP-2)
Small integral membrane proteins (16.7 kD) of synaptic vesicles. Two isoforms, VAMP-1 and VAMP-2 are known. Bind SNAPs and also interact with target-SNARE (syntaxin). Cleaved by clostridial toxins encoding zinc endopeptidases, such as tetanus toxin and botulinum toxin, blocking synaptic release.
